FAQ: What conditions cause the over-temperature protection to trip on the N5700 and N8700 series?

1) The RPM of all cooling fans is monitored. If the RPM of any of the fans falls below a prescribed level, OT is triggered, irrespective of ambient temperature.

2) The operating conditions of the down programmer are measured. If the conditions exceed the designed levels, OT is triggered, partially related to ambient temp.

3) The operating temperature of the power inverter is measured, if it exceeds a prescribed temperature, OT is triggered.

Note that operation above 40°C will not automatically trip the OT. However, operating above the specified product’s temperature limit will negatively impact the long-term reliability of the product and other accuracy/drift specifications.
